EXPAREL is a non-opioid, long-lasting local anesthetic used to manage post-surgical pain. It is administered directly to the surgical site to provide targeted pain relief for the first few days, which can reduce or eliminate the need for opioid pain medications.

It's normal to have some discomfort and swelling that peaks within the first 48 hours. Your pain should be manageable with medication. If your pain significantly worsens, isn't controlled by medication, or you develop a fever, contact your doctor.

Recovery varies, but you can expect some swelling and bruising that will gradually go down over the first week. You'll be given detailed instructions on diet, activity, and follow-up care.

Apply an ice pack to your cheek for 15-20 minutes at a time during the first 24-48 hours. After that, a warm compress can help reduce swelling and jaw stiffness.

The recovery timeline depends on the complexity of your procedure. For most simple extractions, you can resume normal activities within 48 to 72 hours, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least a week. Listen to your body and follow the specific instructions provided by our team to ensure a safe and full recovery.

For the first 24-48 hours, stick to soft, cool, or lukewarm foods like yogurt, smoothies, and mashed potatoes. Avoid anything hard, crunchy, or hot. Gradually reintroduce solid foods as you feel comfortable.

If your stitches (sutures) were dissolvable, they are designed to fall out on their own as you heal. It's completely normal for this to happen within the first week. If you’re concerned or if you notice significant bleeding after a stitch falls out, please contact our office.
